Gemma and Greg's Wedding Photography Story
Thyme @ Southrop Manor, Gloucestershire
Gemma and Greg were a lovely couple to work with. They clearly doted on each other and their two year old daughter, Poppy.
When they first told me about their wedding venue at our first meeting together, it instantly got my creative juices buzzing. Located on a small English country estate with its 15th Century Manor House and Norman Church, Thyme is a riding and cookery school that reflects a passion for the seasons and its produce.
I spent the wedding morning photographing Gemma, Poppy and her bridesmaids in 'The Dairy', one of Southrop Manor's pretty self catering cottages. It was very touching to see Gemma be so attentive to her daughter to make sure she looked like a little princess.
I'd arrived in plenty of time so took half an hour to walk around the venue, photographing its grounds and the medieval tithe barn, which was to host the wedding breakfast.
I made my way to the Church in anticipation of Gemma's arrival. Her beautiful, elegant gown wowed everyone, none more so than Greg, whose eyes were popping as he watched his two favourite ladies walk down the aisle towards him.
The humble Church made the ceremony feel very intimate. Positioned at the back, at the request of the vicar, I managed to capture some really very lovely moments.
We were fortunate with the weather and it blazed down. After my suggestion of a few group shots outside the Church, guests enjoyed drinks and canapés, prepared by Thyme's head chef.
During a quiet moment, I suggested to Gemma and Greg that it might be a good time to take a walk around the grounds. After I obtained special permission from the owner, we took a slow walk into the private gardens. We followed the line of trees down to the river and formal lake, and then back up some pretty cobbled steps before returning to the wedding party. We paused on many occasions as and when I saw a nice photographic opportunity.
As a guest got the bets in for how long the best man's speech would be, everyone sat down to a gourmet banquet. The speeches preceded the wedding breakfast and put everyone in the mood for a night of partying.
